NaNoWriMo 2014 — Update 9: Happy Thanksgiving!

On this, the American day of Turkey, it can be more than a little difficult to find time to write.

  • cooking
  • baking
  • cleaning
  • constructing tables
  • setting places
  • eating
  • socializing
  • eating
  • watching TV (football, right?)
  • eating
  • socializing
  • eating
  • resisting urge to succumb to food coma
  • eating
  • dishes
  • cleaning
  • deconstructing tables
  • cleaning
  • dishes
  • dishes
  • dishes
  • eating
  • storing leftovers
  • cleaning
  • dishes
  • succumb to food coma
  • drive home/collapse on floor
  • food coma death
  • (days pass)
  • wake from food coma
  • eat leftovers

So, where in that list can we insert writing?

You can compensate for this by writing more yesterday and/or tomorrow. You can take the day off if you like. Eat all the food your expandable stomach can handle! Then eat some more!

If you’re a brave soul (or if you don’t overindulge in foodstuffs), you can shoot for a late-evening word dash.

If you’re a bit of an introvert, you can always tote your laptop, notebook, paper, sharpie/flat surface with you. When you get overwhelmed by the insane amount of company, or if your Granny has harassed you one too many times about getting a boyfriend, then you can slip away and do some mad scribbling.

Either way, today is a day of thankfulness, and you should be thankful for NaNoWriMo! Look at what you’ve done so far! 1,000 words or 100,000 words, you’ve done what this month encourages you to do! Write, write, write!

So be thankful for writing, be thankful for inspiration (when it decides to show up), be thankful for words, and language, and stories, and be thankful for the opportunity to live in a world kind enough to provide you with the means and substance to write.

Now let’s talk about what’s really important today. Food.

Next: What to do After NaNoWriMo (December, day 1)
