Nanowrimo 2014 — Update 2: Stranded on the Side of the Road

As I write this, I’m sitting in my car off I-96 Freeway at a desolate Marathon gas station, trying to decide:

  • if civilization still exists
  • if it’s actually I-94, not I-96
  • if I should be typing when my fingers are this cold
  • if my car is going to need transmission fluid or an entire rebuild of the system
  • if my landlady will charge me for not making home tonight in time to sign the rent check that I forgot to sign last Thursday

Suffice it to say, I’m having a rather off evening. Yet that does not diminish the accomplishments of today as far as Nanowrimo is concerned. I’m up over 6000 words today (objective of 3300ish), and I just started Chapter Four where, among other things, my main character will:

  • Run
  • Be chased
  • Survive an assassination attempt
  • Find a coin on the sidewalk

All in all, I’d say my MC is having a day quite like mine. A bunch of negatives, but a positive to make it shiny again.

After the minute or so longer that I spend typing this out, I’ll dive back into my story. Because how best to describe the chill of morning’s air when I’m huddling for warmth in my car! (Granted, I have gloves that I’m  not wearing [makes typing hard], and hand warmers I’m not using [also hard for typing], but I do have a cola and beef jerky! Yay Gas Station!)
